Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta from her farmer great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts. Her father took keen interest from a young age in stage. When he was a college pupil at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he was a part of numerous productions. While stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, he was inducted into the Air Force in 1953. Betty Lou Bredemus was also in the production. In 1955, they got married and their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter as well as his spouse quit the military in, when they enrolled Walter as a student at Tulane University. Walter began working for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday matinee local TV show that was aimed at children, named Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964, a project they self-financed. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in the year 1964, and it ran for about six years. Lelisa Billingsley who is also referred to as Lisa was born in 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
